spoilt for choice

A quick flick through the sporting agenda in Barcelona over the next couple of weeks and any sports fan would be drooling on the carpet, phoning the boss with an imaginary but highly contagious illness and emptying the kid’s piggy bank.

First up on Monday 9th is the Barcelona Ladies Open, with the pro girlies warming up for the clay court season. 91 players, including Francesca Schiavone and Julia Georges, will be battling it out at the Vall d’Hebron tennis club. It is on all week with the final on Sunday 15th.

Across the city on Thursday 12th over a hundred classic rally cars will be on show at Montjuic right by the Magic Fountain. You can check out some really fabulous wheels, whilst the teams ready themselves for the 9th Costa Brava Historic Rally, 3 days and 1400kms of old school racing.

After the aperitif comes the main course and what a feast people!

After travelling to London for their first leg Champions League clash with Chelsea, FC Barcelona will be then getting ready for the mother of all soccer games, ‘El Clasico’. With arch rivals Madrid ahead in the league, but still stewing from a string of recent defeats by the Catalan outfit, the game is a soccer bomb waiting to go off. To get you involved in the build up to match day, we will do a series of special daily El Clasico posts from Thursday 19th April.

Starting the same weekend is the ATP Barcelona Open at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona. Competing for the ‘Trofeo Conde de Godo’ and over 1.5 million euros of prize money are some of the top names (and bodies ladies!) in mens tennis. Rafael Nadal is the hot favourite, but Andy Murray, David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych et al will be trying to prevent the Spanish star from claiming a seventh title.

Then the focus switches back to the Nou Camp with FC Barcelona’s second leg against Chelsea to see who makes it to the Champions League final in Munich.

Fast cars, pro tennis, Champions League, El Clasico, Schiavone, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldo, Nadal and Murray.

We are definitely spoilt for choice!
